Hello.
I am a Limerick based architect.

Welcome to SONARC, a new architectural studio established by Shane O'Neill, a registered member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland.

Background
Originally from Limerick, I completed my studies in Aberdeen, Scotland in the Robert Gordon University qualifying with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 2009 before going on to complete a Master of Architecture in 2010.

Following my time in university, I completed my professional exams in 2011 and received a Distinction from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in completing the Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture course.
Experience
Having worked in practices in both the UK and Ireland, I have experience in Residential, Commercial, Educational and Masterplanning projects. I also have experience with the Irish and UK planning and building control systems.

As a newly qualified and registered architect, I established SONARC with a view to working on projects on an individual basis while also working in partnership with other practices and architects.
RIAI Membership
Having qualified through the RIBA professional exams, I joined the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland in 2012. As required by law in Ireland, anyone advertising as an architect in the country must be registered with the RIAI.

The RIAI maintain the register of architects within Ireland and also provide useful information to consumers when hiring an architect. If you would like to find out more information just click the link here.

About

I could use recycled marketing jargon here but you've seen that a million times before.

To put it simply, as it's just me you'll be dealing with, I can provide the attention to detail that your project needs.

Having worked in London for RMA Architects and in Limerick for Healy Partners Architects I have several years experience in residential, commercial, educational, leisure and masterplanning designs. In particular, I have worked on projects in Limerick, Kerry, Clare and Tipperary.

Undertaking any type of construction work can be a daunting task. SONARC can provide you with an architectural service that looks after you from start to finish. When I work with clients I give them my undivided attention and guarantee they are satisfied with the final design. I have extensive experience with one off house and house extension designs throughout Munster.

As well as residential, I have experience in dealing with commercial buildings and fit-outs. My involvement in web and graphic design studio, Sidetrack Media, means I am capable of assisting businesses in transferring their brand to their work space.

Services

SONARC provides a wide range of architectural services.

Services range from sketch design to site operations and everything in between. Whether it's a house extension, one-off house or commercial project I can help.

Sketch Design
Sketch designs can be useful if you are looking to get some ideas down on paper before anything gets too serious. After meeting the client I will carry out a full analysis of the building and generate a sketch design with a combination of 2D and 3D drawings. Clients will then have a much clearer understanding of the project's potential.
Developed Design
Once we have agreed on the principles of a sketch design I will then begin work on a more developed design to include measured plans, sections and elevations. With the addition of technical data and involvement of any required consultants the client will have a better understanding of the design and potential costs.
Planning Applications
The planning stage is often the hardest and most frustrating part of the building process for the client. I have experience in working on applications for one-off houses, house extensions, schools and commercial buildings. As well as planning applications I can also assist clients in applications for disability access and fire certificates.
Tender Drawings
Following a successful planning application the building will then need to be developed further in order to form a detailed tender package. The tender package will form the basis of determining costs and will also work as the core of the building contract. This will help in detailing materials and the required standards for the project.
Site work
Once building work commences, with the assistance of Engineers, I can be there to monitor progress of work on site. I can assist in material and colour choices, amend any drawings if required, attempt to solve any problems that may arise, meet with other consultants as necessary and liaise with the client on the progress of the work.
PSDP Accreditation
Having gained PSDP Accreditation from the RIAI, I can also act as Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP). Since mid 2013, The Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations requires the appointment of a PSDP to oversee health and safety during the design and planning process for nearly all construction projects.
